Do I have to do this?  Yes, this is essential. Before you engage an employee, you need to understand the different employment relationships available.

Do I have to do this?  No – but planning and budgeting for an employee will help you work out if you can afford to employ someone and whether employing someone is the right decision for your organisation or business.

Do I have to do this?  Yes. This is a legal requirement. You must have workers compensation insurance for employees — even if it’s just one employee or if they are only working for a short period.

Do I have to do this?  You do need to work it out – but whether you will need other types of insurance can depend on the work or services of the employee, and on any contracts you have.

Do I have to do this?  Yes. It is very likely you will need to pay tax of some kind. There are also systems you will need to set up to report to the Australian Tax Office.

Importantly, any employee who will (or even might) work with children or young people is likely to need a valid Working With Children Check (or equivalent).
